Brainwaves Presents: September article monthly round-up

A collection of some stand out reads from the past month.

It's like we're living in a ribbon revolution! Ribbons are everywhere, from wrapping up jeans and accenting jewelry to gracing purses and shoes, not to mention embellishing bridal ensembles and even baked treats. It's remarkable how a simple, ten-inch strip of fabric, something you could easily snag at your neighborhood JOANN Fabric store, has become such a coveted accessory.

I can't help but wonder what's driving this ribbon frenzy. Is it a reaction against the prevailing trend of minimalism? Perhaps it's the emotional pull, evoking a sense of nostalgia or a reconnection to girlhood. Could it be the guiding hand of influential designers, setting the tone for this trend? The whole phenomenon has me utterly intrigued.

The research shows that COVID-19 has significantly altered how we perceive the passage of time. This article hit home for me in a big way. It put into words exactly what I've been feeling – this strange sensation of being caught between my mid-20s and the impending reality of turning 30, like there's this odd gap in my timeline.

That sentiment, "I feel like I blinked and am now in the second half of my 20s," couldn't be more spot-on. It's like I went to sleep one night, and suddenly, I'm navigating the latter half of this pivotal decade. It's a sentiment that seems to be shared by many, capturing the sense of time slipping by, leaving us all a little wide-eyed and wondering where it went.

Hopeful influencers can now get a specialized degree - starting next year, a university in Ireland is offering a bachelor of arts degree in influencing.

South East Technological University (SETU) in Carlow, Ireland, will introduce a Bachelor of Arts program tailored specifically for those looking to make a mark in the world of social media influence.

According to Brooke Erin Duffy, a distinguished professor of communications at Cornell University, this development is particularly timely. Duffy states, “Now, more than ever, everyone wants to maintain a semblance of control over their lives. And an influencer career promises an independent entrepreneurial career”.

This pioneering degree program not only acknowledges the significance of the influencer profession but also underscores the creative, personal, and practical skills necessary to excel in this dynamic field. It is poised to equip hopeful influencers with a comprehensive understanding of digital marketing strategies, content creation techniques, audience engagement tactics, and ethical considerations in the realm of online influence.

As the influence of social media continues to permeate various aspects of society, this educational offering signals a proactive step towards professionalizing and legitimizing the influencer profession. It empowers individuals to leverage their creativity, authenticity, and expertise in a way that not only resonates with audiences but also leads to meaningful and sustainable careers in the ever-evolving digital landscape.

I'm curious to see how the course will adapt to the constant evolution of trends, algorithms, and cultural shifts in the realm of major social media platforms and wider culture.

Stay tuned for next month’s round-up!
